Last Post
Okaay I know I promised to post about my fantastic Dunhuang trip... but guess what... I'm really really busy these days with packing up and having goodbye-meals with my friends here, so...
Aiyah just an excuse for being lazy. =) Anyway Dunhuang doesn't correspond to this blog's theme of being "In Beijing" so I think I'm guilt-free :)
----------
I thank God for sending me here.
It is no coincidence that this trip came about so easily after a trying period and it was just in time for me to get away from the tangles back in Singapore, to see the big world and see that life is so much more than my personal woes.
I had finally, finally grown out of the heartache. I thought it would never end. But when I looked back and talked about it and remembered and considered the future, I felt calm. To find that I am finally not hung up over him made me feel happy, somehow. I will wait for a man who loves me. I will wait for someone who not just fits my criteria, but also loves me. Surely, God has the best for me. My Lord, my God has not given up on me while I fall repeatedly, but gives me time and opportunity to grow. I have seen His work, His challenges, and it makes me believe all the more that He loves me and has the best for me.
I had believed that it wasn't possible to have someone like me, or that I wasn't a likeable person, but I was affirmed. I saw that while I had wallowed away in my pains I hid the true joy and energy that God had put in me. Time to start anew as the joyful and confident me.
We believe that we should be humble, but it does not mean that we do not believe in our personal charisma and strengths. Now I know what it is really like to be myself, full of joy and energy. I think I had that hidden away for years and years.
I had surprisingly a lot of contact and work to do with old folks, and I wondered why it had seemed like a difficult thing before. If it wasn't difficult to take 4 hour trips back and forth every two weekends to visit my granduncle and grandaunt, it wouldn't be difficult to make that 1 hour trip to visit my grandmother.
When I was here, there wasn't any real problem with basic needs. In fact, I don't recall having met any serious problems that put dampers on this trip. When I was lonely, He sent me friends, He sent me sister Bryna with whom I could share my spiritual and emotional struggles and her with me. Such, is the depth of the Lord's love and care. He doesn't just care that I get fed and clothed. He saw that I am cherished and protected. There is no end to my thanksgiving.
The decision to go on the Dunhuang trip was very rushed, and yet I find myself giving thanks that I have made that decision. It was the highlight of this exchange trip and it was a beautiful conclusion to this visit of mine to China. The memories will follow me for a long time at least. In this trip, God let me see myself. I discovered that I love the sun, I love walking in the wilds, I love travelling, I love talking to people of other cultures. I love ruins more than museums, I love the sun more than rain, I love laughing more than sinking in melancholies. He let me see what I am and what I can be.
Knowing the various brothers and sisters and seekers of Christ here - it's been amazing what the Lord has been doing here in China and I am really glad that I've come here. There are no regrets, just a strong sense of fulfillment and gratefulness.
It wouldn't be my last trip to China, but I know that this one trip is special. There can never be another trip like this~
